EXPECTATIONS: We expect Preschool teachers to be a Christian role model, educated, kind, loving, fun, professional and creative. Preschool teachers should be reliable and independent.


1. Prior experience working with young children in a formal setting.

2. Minimum of 2-year Associate’s Degree required, Early Childhood preferred.

3. Current First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification or the commitment to obtain such.

4. Candidate must be an active member of a LCMS Church, preferably of this congregation.

5. Must be at least 18 years of age.

6. Must obtain state mandated fingerprinting, criminal background check and TB test.


1. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others.

2. Regularly attend morning devotions with all of Zion teaching staff.

3. Follow the Preschool guidelines for developmentally appropriate curriculum and practice.

4. Provide for growth and development in all skill areas including motor skills, music, art, science, health dramatic play, language arts, math readiness, and religion.

5. Plan all units and lessons in advance, using a written lesson-plan.

6. Develop a monthly calendar to inform parents of educational themes and special events for the month.

7. Change bulletin boards and decorations monthly or as teaching units dictate.

8. Maintain a neat, organized classroom and assist in keeping common areas such as the teacher workroom and storage areas in good order.

9. Help students learn classroom procedures, personal responsibility and respect for all students.

10. Use appropriate behavior management as outlined in the school handbook.

11. Attend monthly staff meetings.

12. Attend training as made available.

13. Maintain a professional appearance.

14. Establish consistent communication with parents using a variety of means; phone calls, email, monthly calendar, newsletter.

15. Respect the privacy of students and parents. Never speak of a child to someone who is not their parent or directly involved in their instruction.

16. Respect the privacy of fellow coworkers. Speak directly with coworker if issues arise. If matter is not resolved, discuss with the Director.

17. Supervise Preschool Assistants.

18. The Teacher will work cooperatively with the Director on a daily basis to ensure open lines of communication and consistency throughout the program.

19. The teacher is to communicate with the Director before organizing activities with the day school.

20. The teacher will work with the Director to implement changes in the curriculum and organize events within the preschool program.

21. In the absence of a teacher due to illness or an emergency, it is the teacher’s responsibility to notify the Director.

22. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
